New gameplay-build coming soon
The current build is mostly "the gamejam game ... with a tech-demo for AI features added on top" -- the AI features don't do anything in-game, but let you play with talking to NPC characters simulated by ChatGPT on the backend.
I've been working on the first serious update, and it's almost ready. Major changes:
- Automatic save progress (everything saved to your local browser storage; you can select 'new game' to restart, or reload where you stopped)
- Experimental 'import' (when I update new builds, attempts to import and convert your old savegame; this won't be perfect, since I'm adding/removing features and missions, but it should preserve the main upgrades, money earned, reputation earned, etc)
Additionally, I would like to merge this with the first gameplay update - but this depends on how long it takes to finish the gameplay features. Currently:
- 'networks' that you can compromise: gain access by hacking a gateway server, which then gives you access to mutiple private servers/laptops/desktops inside the network
- 'AetherShell' -- MAJOR game feature: allows you to 'super-hack' the servers you've already hacked, but additionally install new software on them. This will be the basis for most ongoing hacks in the game - after your basic 'get a username/password' hack, the next level is to use the AetherShell to inject apps onto servers, and then you can run your own apps, do more advanced hacking, build botnets, etc.
The AetherShell is already working but I have to reconfigure the game to make use of it, and I need to write a whole new set of missions / mission-generators to take advantage of it.
Ditto Networks are implemented, but currently I don't have any code to auto-generate a network and create all the servers inside it (I'm builgin them by hand right now), so I need to design and build that, then test it and check it's actually fun,
